‘Jail Time’ Clock

The motto ‘we all live in the now‘, was the inspiration to design the J A I LT I M E clock. This sleek wooden object features two in sync clockworks; one representing ‘our’ real time, the other ‘their’ jail time. It is a philosophical statement, stimulating the public to reflect on the value of time spent in freedom as well as the effectiveness of the latter spent imprisoned.

In 2022, a design contest among local designers was launched with the aim to create items that could be produced by the employees of Defi-job (detainees of Givenich Penitentiary) under the Jailbird label. The designs had to have the following characteristics: to be durable and made mainly of wood. Inmates with no professional experience and limited education should be able to produce them.
